China has officially joined COVAX, the program set up by CEPI, the WHO, and Gavi to equitably distribute vaccines around the world, which the Trump administration has refused to join.
Foreign Ministry spokesperson Hua Chunying said in a statement that China is pledging to make its vaccines a “global public good,” prioritizing developing countries.
“We are taking this concrete step to ensure equitable distribution of vaccines, especially to developing countries, and hope more capable countries will also join and support COVAX. China will also strengthen vaccine cooperation with relevant countries through the COVAX network,” Chunying said.
